AFA to join global farmers’ forum

Leaders of the Asian Farmers’ Association for Sustainable Rural Development (AFA) will join around 80 other farmer leaders from around the world for the second global meeting of the Farmers’ Forum that will take place on February 11-12, 2008 in conjunction with the thirty-first session of International Fund for Agricultural Development’s (IFAD) Governing Council.

AFA to hold 3rd General Assembly in Korea

Following the 21st AFA Execom meeting in Bangkok, Thailand last December 22, 2007, AFA announced that it will hold its third general assembly in Korea on February 28 to March 3, 2008, to be hosted by the Korean Advanced Farmers’ Federation (KAFF). (more…)

AFA conducts Regional Consultation-Workshop on the ASEAN Charter and the ASEAN Economic Community blueprint

AFA successfully conducted the regional consultation-workshop entitled “ASEAN at 40: Challenges to Asian Farmers Posed by the Charter and Economic Community Blueprint” last December 20-21 at KU Home in Bangkok, Thailand. It was hosted by Sor Kor Por or Farmers’ Federations’ Association for Development in Thailand. The consultation was part of AFA’s continuing efforts to engage ASEAN on matters that greatly concern small-scale men and women farmers and producers in the region.

AFA supports PAKISAMA’s campaign to help farmers’ struggle to reclaim land

A group of indigenous farmers from southern Philippines went on a 60-day march to Manila to reclaim 144 hectares of ancestral land that they lost 10 years ago after it was converted into commercial use and exempted from the land reform program, in favour of a big landowner in the province.
