FNN holds general assembly, elects new officers

The Farmer and Nature Net (FNN), AFA’s member in Cambodia, held its general assembly last December 19, 2008, where representatives from 10 provinces and specialized networks elected the farmer federation’s new president and vice-president, among other officers.

In an e-mail sent to AFA and its member organizations from 8 countries in Asia, FNN announced that there were important amendments in FNN’s governance, particularly its management structure.

“The process and result of the GA was very smooth and fruitful,” said Kong Sokcchoin, Secretary of FNN.

Banasi farmers march to Malacanang to re-iterate demand to PGMA to reverse Ermita’s Decision

Press Release

As the seven-day promise of Secretary Sylvestre Bello to act on their case ended yesterday, the protesting Banasi farmers marched to Malacanang anew at 8:30 AM. They would like to meet with Secretary Bello and demand an accounting of his promise. They reached the Malacanang gates but were effectively blocked by a plank of policemen. The farmers retreated a bit and now are having a silent sit down protest under the Nagtahan Bridge, hoping PGMA will notice them when she passes by.

One of the farmers, Crisanta Baleder, 63, collapsed during the incident and was rushed to D.Ocampo Hospital.

The farmers learned last night that their case was remanded yesterday by Malacanang to the Department of Agrarian Reform.
