ainoukai02Zekoku Ainoukai, a farmer organization in Japan devoted to organic farming and an AFA member, started this year’s preparation course for future farmers last April 8. The course is for Japanese citizens who are interested in farming, most of whom are from the city and are still working in companies.

Held every Saturday until November, the course usually starts with lectures in the morning followed by farm work in the afternoon. Zekoku Ainoukai provides participants with a small farm lot where they can learn about farming by growing vegetables themselves.

This year, the course has 11 participants. On the first day, the participants participated in a lecture on how to plant summer vegetables. After learning the theory, the participants did soil-making and made their own nurseries of different kinds of summer vegetables by themselves.

Founded in 1945, Zekoku Ainoukai believes that the conservation and sound development of agriculture is an indispensable way to attain world peace. It has 300 members, 100 supporters, 900 subscribers (to its monthly newsletter “AINO”).
