Aliansi Petani Indonesia (API), together with Sridonoretno Farmer Union (API’s member), set an agri-cooperative to provide services in collective marketing of Robusta Coffee in Malang. The cooperative provides various coffee from API’s members in several areas including Robusta, Arabica, Juria, Yellow Cattura Manggarai and Bajawa (East Nusatenggara), and Arabica Toraja.Cooperative supplies coffee shops in the Great Malang, Kadiri district, Surabaya, Bandung and Jakarta. Through cooperation with coffee shop networking and information technology, the demand for specialty coffee continues to increase.

“Demand for good quality of coffee is very high. We have stocks of coffee in Malang, namely: 7 tons robusta “Sridonoretno”, 1 ton Arabica Bajawa, 1 ton Arabica Manggarai, 600 kg Yellow Cattura Manggarai, 500 kg Manggarai Juria, 450 kg Arabica Toraja, and 1 ton of other coffee variants. We have calculated that these stocks will last only until August,” said Ipong, marketing staff of API and is responsible in the Great Malang Area.

To increase access to credit in financial institutions, API regularly provides technical assistance to cooperative management and officials in order to increase capability of financial management. Mrs. Catherina, finance official of Sridonoretno pre-cooperative said, “From this technical support on financial management provided by API, we learned about financial recording, accounting process, balance sheet (neraca), profit and loss report, cash flow, cost and capital planning.”

API provides extension service to Sridonoretno cooperative every Saturday and Sunday. Once every three months. Muhammad Rifai from API National Secretariat comes to provide review about progress of the financial management and provide feedback.

Because Sridonoretno pre-cooperative has a good financial management and business opportunity, several financial institutions including Dana Reksa, Bank Jatim, BRI, BNI are interested to provide credit and cooperation with Sridonoretno.

Sukriyanto, head of Sridonoretno farmer Union, said that, “Currently, we have access to credit with low interest rate in Dana Reksa Rp 40,000,000, BRI 30,000,000, Bank Jatim 25,000,000. We do not dare to take a big chance on bank debt. That we must be carefully considered in financial management. We must learn step by step.” (Report by API)
