Citing AFA Secretary General Esther Penunia’s article “Women and Food Security,” Juhie Bhatia writes at Global Voices about women as an often-overlooked solution to fighting hunger.

She points to the gender gap in agriculture, where women  make up almost half of the world’s agricultural labor force and produce one half of the world’s food, but  get little or no recognition for their contribution and have less access to resources and opportunities than their male counterparts.

She cites reports showing that giving women the resources they need can help increase agricultural production in developing countries and reduce world hunger, while improving food security for the family.

She also cites various  projects  around that world that use different approaches, but which all emphasize the inclusion of women.
