My family is into agriculture. Our livelihood is dependent on farming. Farming provides us with food, shelter, supports our education, and provides us with other necessities in life. Since it is the main livelihood of our family, it was quite easy for me to be engaged in agriculture as well. So, at the age of fifteen, I started farming.

However, I encounter different challenges and one is producing safe food. With the help of Upazila Agriculture Extension Department, I have been receiving advice and training through the Integrated Farm Management Farmers Field School. I have been involved in agricultural work for fifteen years now and chose to focus on production to marketing considering safe and environment-friendly agriculture. With the cooperation and support of people around me, I can now consider myself successful.

The challenges that we are facing in the field of agriculture are lack of training for farmers, lack of capital, lack of agricultural equipment, lack of skilled workers, natural disasters, and an inefficient market system.

To resolve these challenges, I recommend the following actions:

  • Arrange agriculture training for farmers
  • Provide long term loans to farmers at low interest rates
  • Provide modern equipment for farmers
  • Efficient weather forecasting so farmers are warned of calamities
  • Proper supervision of the market
  • Increase the quality of agricultural work

If these recommendations are accepted, the next step is the adaptation of the action plans. And if these are implemented, it will then be possible to produce and market safe food. Hence, there will be a significant change in the agricultural sector in Bangladesh.
