Nine hundred (900) households in Barangay San Vicente, Sumilao, Bukidnon, Philippines benefited from the relief drive of the Panaw Sumilao Multi-Purpose Cooperative.

On 21 June 2020, the Panaw Sumilao MPC, a member of PAKISAMA, donated food packs for San Vicente residents as part of their Community Disaster Response for COVID-19 Pandemic. The cooperative allocated 75 percent of its total accumulated Community Development Funds to purchase the food packs. The donation drive is the cooperative’s way of giving back or sharing to the community.

Noland Peñas, Advocacy and Linkaging Officer of Panaw Sumilao MPC and Chairperson of PAKISAMA, says, “Eleven years ago, we have nothing but hope and perseverance. The Sumilao farmers struggle regained what is rightfully ours!”

Panaw Sumilao MPC also bought the coffee produce of family farmers in the community to support them amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Penas notes that the pandemic may have brought challenges for small farmers, but by helping each other, farmers can regain strength. #
