Formed in 2009 after the ActionAid Bangladesh Food Security for Sustainable Household Livelihood (FoSHoL) project, KKM (Central Farmers’ Alliance) aims at the realization of the rights of deprived farmers and marginalized people, promoting food security, recognition of women farmer, and formulation and sustainable and farmer friendly agricultural policy through formation of strong national farmer organizations and national farmers’ coalition to achieve a life with dignity and solvency. It operates through 959 village organizations in 38 unions from 13 subdisrticts, under 9 districts namely – Noakhali, Sunamganj, Potuakhali, Satkhira, Khulna, Kurigram, Dinajpur, Lalmonirhat & Gaibandha. KKM is working in the areas of: leadership development among women farmers; group-based agricultural practices; compact cropping; effective advocacy through networking; providing assistance for agricultural rehabilitation; increasing access to government services; identifying and resolving the problems of local farmers and agricultural practices; and, promoting sustainable agriculture practices. It is engaged in business initiatives such as: seed production, grading, packaging and marketing; organic agro production (rice, potato, vegetables, pulses); and, mustard oil production, milling and marketing.
