As a fitting start of the year, the International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems (IPES-Food) organized the event “Adjusting to the New Normal: Building Resilient Food Systems in the Face of Climate Change, Supply Shocks and Rising Energy Costs” last 14 January 2023 as one of the events held during the Oxford Real Farming Conference, an annual conference that connects people in the UK and around the globe who want to transform our food and farming systems.

AFA Secretary General Esther Penunia joined the virtual panel session together with Yodit Kebede of Biovision Foundation, Anne Mottet of FAO, and Emile Frison of IPES-Food. The panel took stock of the evolving impacts of the current food price crisis, and the opportunity that it represents for eliminating harmful dependencies and accelerating longer-term agro-ecological transformation. The panelists provided examples of how agro-ecological practices helped farmers become more resilient during the crisis, and discussed several initiatives for measuring the results of agro-ecological transformation in farms.
