RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – AFA delegates to the Rio+20 joined the dialogue session on “Agricultural Transition” organized by the More and Better network last June 17 at the Rio Centro in Rio de Janeiro Brazil.

The dialogue session is one among of many civil society parallel events being held in conjunction with the Rio+20 Earth Summit scheduled on June 20-22 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In his speech during dialogue, AFA Chairperson Uon Sophal shared his experience in transitioning into organic farming through the use of SRI, with Mr. Pan Sopheap, FNN Executive Director, acting as translator before a huge audience of organic agriculture advocates and practitioners, as well as other NGOs.

“Small farmers like us form the majority of the people in the ASEAN region. “We contribute to food security by producing the food that feeds a growing population,” Sophal said.

“We can do more if you support us in practicing farming systems that are productive, economically viable, and agro-ecologically sound,” he added.

The AFA delegation to the Rio+20 is composed of representatives from AINOUKAI in Japan, PAKISAMA in the Philippines, FNN in Cambodia, and the secretariat.
