The Asian Farmers’ Association for Sustainable Rural Development (AFA), an association of around nine (9) million farmers from ten (10) Asian countries, held its first major event for the year last April 6-12, 2006 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia with the theme “Directions, Actions, Milestones: 2006-2010â€. Event activities included a strategic planning workshop, a field visit to a farmer community, the second general assembly, and a public forum on WTO and ASEAN.
Twenty-eight (28) farmer organization representatives, staff and interpreters, from ten (10) member and observer organizations in nine (9) countries attended the event, which was hosted by Farmer and Nature Net (FNN) and the Center for Studies and Development of Cambodian Agriculture (CEDAC). They were joined by guests from nine (9) international organizations.
AFA members who participated include API (Indonesia), KAFF and BFA (Korea), PAKISAMA (Philippines), SorKorPor (Thailand), TWADA (Taiwan), FNN (Cambodia), Ainou-kai (Japan), and VNFU (Vietnam), and partner farmer group of DHRRA Network Malaysia .
