On May 2, Mr. Samir Topno from India arrived at Ainou to have training on organic farming. He has been working on rural development in India under the Allahabad Agricultural University as an assistant professor since 2000. Currently, since January 2006, he has been working as a manager in Training Program in Organic Farming for Rural Youth under the college of continuing and non formal education in the same University.
He is sent by Dr. Teruo Miura who was a vice principal in Asian Rural Institute and now working in the college of continuing and non formal education in Allahabad Agricultural University as a head of the division. Based on Dr. Miura’s experience, Japanese organic farming techniques can be applied into India and that can contribute to improving farming techniques and farm management in rural India.
The very end of this program is so that popularizing organic farming into rural India. (In India, there is a reality that poor farmers have no choice other than organic farming since there is no money to buy chemicals.) He will stay in Japan for 2 month. In the first 1 month, he will stay in Ainou and his training will be focused more on actual farm works. He will also have field visits on the second month through out the country. This training program is supported by JICA and most of the costs will be shouldered by them.
