Representatives of the Asian Farmers’ Association for Sustainable Rural Development (AFA) joined around 80 farmer leaders from around the world for the second global meeting of the Farmers’ Forum that took place on February 11-12, 2008 in conjunction with the thirty-first session of International Fund for Agricultural Development’s (IFAD) Governing Council.

The forum sought to: (1) review progress achieved in enhancing collaboration between IFAD and farmers’ and rural producers’ organizations; (2) discuss IFAD strategic and policy documents; and, (3) share positions on the following three critical issues for the future of smallholder family agriculture: access to natural resources, climate change, policy making and policy influence.

As a member of the Steering Committee, AFA was represented by Mr. Seo, Jung Eui, Chairperson of AFA and former Chairperson of KAFF in Korea, Mr. Crispino Aguelo, National President of PAKISAMA in the Philippines, Mr. Muhammad Nur Uddin, Secretary General of API in Indonesia, and Ms. Ma. Estrella Penunia, Secretary General of AFA, who read the synthesis of deliberations during the IFAD governing council meeting.
