FORCE 2.0 Workshop: Deepening Farmers’ Organisations Recognition, Capacity, and Engagement
2-6 March 2026 | The Linden Suites, Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines
Background
The nine regional and two global farmers organisations (FOs) of the Family Farmers for Climate Action campaign are meeting for a workshop in Manila, Philippines, as a follow up of the 1st FORCE workshop in Tanzania (May 2025). The meeting, hosted by the Asian Farmers Association for Sustainable Rural Development (AFA), is organised with support of the Foundation for Farmers Organisations for Restorative Action (FFORA) and advice from the Global Strategic Communications Council (GSCC).
The workshop will focus on building key priorities and actions for the FFCA to deepen the communication, advocacy and influence of FOs in shaping national and global reforms and further developing a farmer resiliency and empowerment fund.
The workshop will deliver a documented follow-up action/advocacy plan aimed at building pathways and partnerships for FOs to influence and shape finance necessary for a just and biodiverse climate transition. This will include setting clear targets, strategies and tactics.
The process will further increase the knowledge available to farmers organisations and funders regards localisation of climate finance and options for farmer driven finance mechanisms whilst helping further strengthen their mutual understanding and capacity to engage with each other to build trusted partnerships.
Main objectives of the workshop
- Foster collective insights, exchange and learning on global geo-politics, regional and national initiatives in Asia/Southeast Asia on mobilizing finance for empowerment of farmers and socio-economic development of communities in a changing climate.
- Enhance capacities and strengthen coherency in the voices, deepen messages, needs and priorities of farmers organisations around 3 streams of work for more accessible and increased volumes of finance for and directly to FOs:
- National policy and programmatic reforms,
- Global policy and programmatic reforms,
- A Family Farmers Resiliency and Empowerment Fund
- FOs to create, and find a consensus, on a draft structure, governance framework, and implementation mechanism of the fund.
- Develop engagement strategies with partners and key funders (multilateral, philanthropic) for FOs to highlight their role and potential to deliver solutions for a just climate transition, and to further engage, navigate and build global, regional, and national climate finance mechanisms.
