A formal ceremony took place in Japan for the inauguration of Mr. Seo, Jung-Eui, President of KAFF, who was elected Chairperson of AFA for the term 2006-2008 last April in Cambodia.
In his acceptance speech, Seo thanked AsiaDHRRA for helping organize AFA as a farmers organization in Asia and the AFA membership for electing him as the new Chairperson. He also acknowledged the efforts of past Chairperson Heru Wardoyo and the Execom for building up AFA into what it is now.
Here is part of Seo’s speech:
“Dear members, we are living our lives filled with limitless competition. The agriculture sector and our farms will be destroyed by the dominance of multinational corporations. Because of this, KAFF had fought the WTO, especially in Cancun, Mexico in 2003. That time, our late Chairman, Lee Kyeung Hae, sacrificed his life, bringing out the voice of farmers against the WTO. He gave the farmers a lot of guidance.
Dear members, we need to pay more attention to protect the farmers’ interest and to be in strong solidarity with one another. We need to give extra attention to the farmers to give them opportunity. If we can think more carefully even in small things, we can make our dreams come true. If AFA could provide good leadership in our agriculture sector, we will have victory at last.â€
