On 14 October 2024, we conducted a monitoring visit to the Selenge Tavan Khairkhan Cooperative, one of the cooperatives supported by the APFP-FO4A program through its national implementing agency, the National Association of Mongolian Agricultural Cooperatives (NAMAC).

Located in Selenge province, Mongolia, the Selenge Tavan Khairkhan Cooperative received support for its business plan on vegetable marketing. ? This initiative provided additional working capital to the cooperative for the aggregation and marketing of its farmer-members’ produce. As a result, the cooperative has scaled its operations, improved the livelihoods of its members, and promoted organic agricultural practices across Mongolia.

The key achievements of the cooperative include:

  • The cooperative offers diverse products including fresh vegetables, frozen vegetables, pickled vegetables, and jams.
  • The cooperative is 100% certified organic and utilizes a Participatory Guarantee System for organic certification, ensuring product quality and cooperative integrity.
  • The cooperative’s membership is steadily increasing. It now represents 200 organic vegetable farmers across 12 cooperatives.
  • The cooperative supplies organic vegetables to local markets, schools, and mining companies. They are looking to expand their market reach through aggregation and value-added processing.
  • The cooperative benefits from market demands due to consumers’ increasing health awareness.
  • In addition to traditional marketing, the cooperative employs innovative digital marketing strategies to meet the growing demand for organic produce.
