MTCP2, a programme implemented by the consortium Asian Farmers’ Association and La Via Campesina, was showcased in the Mekong Hub Knowledge and Learning Fair 2018 (MKLF) held at Centara Sandy Beach Resort in Da Nang, Vietnam on 3-6 July 2018.
The MKLF, an activity hosted by the International Fund for Agricultural Development, featured Knowledge Learning Booths (KLB) of IFAD countries and IFAD regional grants in the Mekong Hub as well as presentations of cases related to the theme: Inclusive and Resilient Smallholder Agricultural Transformation in the Mekong Cluster, which aims to showcase good practices and innovations of IFAD assisted projects (loans and grants) on agricultural and rural development to learn from and which can be replicated or scaled up by IFAD country programmes or by its partner government agencies/ministries.
Seven (7) cases from AFOSP-MTCP2 were presented at the MKLF under the three sub-themes.
Inclusive Smallholder Agricultural Value Chains
- Farmer Basket–Linking Producers with Consumers (Laos)
- Improving Lives through Partnerships: The Fabrica Village Experience (Philippines)
Climate Change Proofed Investment in Agriculture and Rural Development
- Beautiful Wife Rice Cultivation Technique (Laos)
- Peasants’ Agroecological Experiment to Fight Drought: Don Lak Dam Villagers’ Experience (Thailand)
- Growing Cinnamon in a Sustainable Way (Vietnam)
Food Safety, Quality Standards and Nutrition
- Small Farmer Dreams Big with Natural Farming Techniques (Myanmar)
- Inspiring a Community Do Organic Mushroom Cultivation (Myanmar)
The above cases as well as other KM materials and food products of farmers’ organizations were showcased in the AFOSP-MTCP2 booth. Representatives from MTCP2 NIAs of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar Philippines, and Vietnam attended the event to present and discuss their respective case studies. The presentations received a good number of audiences during the presentation sessions. Thomas Rath, the Country Director and Representative for Vietnam, Thailand and Lao PDR & Sub-Regional Coordinator of the Mekong Hub, as well as other IFAD country program managers and the government representatives, visited the MTCP2 booth and listened to the case presentations. Majority of the MTCP2 cases were consistently discussed during the break-out and plenary sessions. Three photo submissions (2 from MTCP2 Laos and 1 from MTCP2 Myanmar) were also included in the photo contest.
The MKLF was a good venue for the MTPC2 NIAs to learn from other IFAD programmes and also share their innovations and good practices.
Around 130 participants from IFAD supported programmes and loan projects from Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, and the Philippines attended the three-day knowledge sharing. The MKLF is organized by the International Fund for Agriculture Development Fund (IFAD) country offices in Vietnam, Lao PDR, Cambodia, Myanmar and the Philippines and some IFAD grants in the region. #
