The Myanmar Fruit, Flower, and Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association (MFVP) is a non-profit organization representing farmers, processors, and traders of fresh produce in Myanmar. Founded in 2006, MFVP is affiliated to UMFCCI. Its members are fruits and vegetable farmers (producers), traders (wholesalers, distributors, exporters), and service providers, covering the entire business chain. The total number of members increased from 500 in 2006 to around 40,000 in 2015. The vision of the association is: “Until 2020, the position of Myanmar fresh produce is enhanced in existing and new markets in line with consumer requirements and growers needs”.

Avocado has recently become a high potential crop for export thus it is becoming increasingly popular among farmers in Myanmar. Avocado has been proven to be a profitable commercial crop bother for the local market and for export. Currently, there is a growing interest in the establishment of avocado in the horticultural industry. There is still a need to study cultivation of native varieties of Myanmar avocado which are grown in Southern Shan State, Southern Chin State, Pyin Oo Lwin Township and Naung Cho Township. AFFM members are among the participants in the process of classifying avocado varieties and from this, they will recommend which ones are suitable for commercial production.

AFFM is a member of the Asian Farmers’ Association (AFA) in Myanmar. ###
