The Myanmar Fruit, Flower, and Vegetable Producer and Exporter Association (MFVP) invited the Confederation of Trade Unions of Myanmar (CTUM) and the Agriculture and Farmers Federation of Myanmar (AFFM) to the 2nd Myanmar Avocado Festival held in Hoppong Topwnship, Shan State, Myanmar on 5-7 January 218.
Members of AFFM and CTUM who are avocado growers from Naga Self Administered Region of Sagaing Region participated in the festival. In the festival, they were able to exhibit their avocado produce as well as Naga cultural artifacts and costumes and also distribute information materials.
Moreover, Naga farmers also joined in the avocado fruit contest organized by the Avocado Association. Around 189 varieties of avocado from different places in Myanmar were showcased during the contest.
On 6-7 January, there were workshops and informative sessions on avocado farming. Among the topics discussed were selection of the variety of avocado, grafting, marketing strategy, and
post-harvest technology and proper utilization of fertilizer.
These activities contributed to expanding the network and experience of CTUM and AFFM members.
On 30 March 2018, the state/regional level parliament of Myanmar approached the CTUM-AFFM leaders informing them that they wanted to contribute to their efforts by offering them 3 acres of land to promote a model farm located in Lahe Township, Naga Self-Administration Zone. A memorandum of understanding on establishing a model farm for avocado plantation was signed between the involved parties.
AFFM is a member of the Asian Farmers’ Association (AFA) in Myanmar. ###
