Three young women farmers from Tikegyi township, Yangon Region, Myanmar whose parents became members of the Agriculture and Farmers Federation of Myanmar (AFFM) in 2016 always work diligently in their paddy fields. After becoming members of AFFM, they received opportunities to attend various trainings.
In 2020, the country’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation implemented a project on COVID-19. The project provided a six-day training on techniques for processing household fruits and vegetables for the people in the village. The three young women farmers attended this training where theory and practical lessons were taught.
After the training, the young farmers formed a group with others from their village who were eager to learn about making hand wash soap and shampoo. This eventually led the small group to operate a small business on their own.
After learning the method of making liquid hand wash soap and shampoo, the three young farmers pooled MMK 30000 (USD 23) each to start making 40 bottles of liquid hand wash soap under the brand name “Shine Star”, which the union members bought for their family to use. For the next batch, they made more than 50 bottles which they sold at the nearby villages and to their friends.
