In 2021, the Central Tea Cooperative Federation (CTCF) Nepal conducted a three-day training aimed at equipping young farmers with sustainable farming practices and providing them with inputs to support their enterprises. The training covered key areas such as sustainable agriculture, the development of lobbying, advocacy, and leadership skills for young farmers engaged in agroforestry and agroforestry-based enterprises, as well as preparing business and farm plans. Eighteen young farmers, including nine males and nine females from different cooperatives and the private sector across eight districts of Nepal, participated in the training.
As part of its enterprise support initiative, CTCF distributed a total of 9,900 tea seedlings to 18 participants and 300 kiwi seedlings to 15 participants to help strengthen their family farming businesses. To further bridge the technical skill gap, CTCF provided Assistant Tea Technician (ATT) training, equipping young farmers with the necessary technical knowledge to operate and establish tea farms. In addition to technical training, participants were educated on sustainable agriculture, lobbying and advocacy, and business plan preparation. By collaborating with various agencies, CTCF continues to offer technical training, capacity development, and enterprise development support to tea farmers and technicians.
The impact of the training extended beyond technical skills, as participants committed to advocating for the issues faced by young farmers engaged in agroforestry and family farming. They also enhanced their capacity in public speaking, enabling them to share their learnings with other farmers and stakeholders. The training was not just about gaining technical expertise but also took a holistic approach by fostering interpersonal skills that empower young farmers to become more effective leaders and advocates within their communities.
