Lila Raj Raut, a young farmer from CTCF Nepal and current Regional Young Farmer Committee Chairperson of AFA, participated in the 4th National Rural Youth Festival held in Brasilia, Brazil on 25-27 April 2023. Themed “Sowing resistance and cultivating a new world“, the event gathered around 5000 young people from all over the world. At the event, Raut shared AFA’s initiatives and activities involving youth engaged in agriculture.
Raut, along with other youth leaders comprising the Family Farming Youth Core Group delegation of the World Rural Forum in which AFA is a member, participated in this training and mobilization space to exchange experiences and initiatives on public policies, food sovereignty, political empowerment and to advocate for rights that improve the relevance of rural youth in the countryside and in policy dialogue and negotiation spaces. At the end of the event, strategies were determined to strengthen the joint action of rural youth in political dialogue spaces at the regional and international levels.
Attracting the youth in agriculture is one of AFA’s agenda. Through its various projects, programs, and activities, AFA encourages the younger generation to embrace agriculture and nurture their enthusiasm and skills for sustainable and resilient farming and associated ventures.
