Namaste! I am Kritica Lageju, a farmer and member of ANFPa revolution center, Bhaktapur, Nepal. It’s been six years since I have been engaged in the production of mushrooms, mushroom seeds, and vegetables. I also distribute vegetables to farmers.
As we know, Nepal is geographically an agricultural country. Its climate is very friendly for agriculture which can be an opportunity for farmers, but moving forward in agriculture as a business, we farmers are facing a lot of obstacles. Getting an expected result is very low socially, economically, and culturally.
Therefore, to get the expected results, the Nepal government must manage and change some of its measures so that I and other farmers in the country can expand socially, economically, and culturally. So here are some of my suggestions:
-
Every local body must establish and run at least one food store.
-
The 25% tax paid by registered agricultural farms to the government must be reduced.
-
Local bodies must have at least two locations for agricultural production and must show their production.
-
Impose a ban on products that are produced enough in our own country.
-
Government-owned lands that are unused must be repurposed for agricultural production.
-
When buying vehicles for agricultural purposes, the tax must be reduced.
-
Cooperatives must be prioritized for the market management of the produced goods.
-
Local seed banks must be preserved and developed.
-
Substitute loans must be processed through cooperatives.
