Cebu, Philippines – The Asian Farmers’ Association (AFA), through the SPADe Project, brought 43 cooperative officers, leaders, members and staff (81% women, 19% youth) from 17 cooperatives across Regions 10,11,12, and 13 for a learning activity to Lamac Multi-purpose Cooperative in Pinamungahan, Cebu province, one of the most successful agricultural cooperatives in the Philippines. From February 27-29, 2024 participants will be exposed to various value chain activities, agri-enterprises and women- and youth-led programs and enterprises.
This activity is part of the project’s capacity development strategy that combines several approaches. At the cooperative level, these include the setting up and mobilization of women and youth committees and gender and development (GAD) mainstreaming activities. At the individual level, these include training, coaching and mentoring, workshops, coop-to-coop exchange, study visits, and learning by doing activities. Specific to economic outcomes, the project is facilitating the realization of business ambitions of women and youth and their valuable engagement in markets and value chains.
At the end of the learning activity, participants should be able to identify lessons and recommendations that can be adapted to their own context and cooperatives, especially related to women and youth empowerment and inclusion.
The SPADe project is co-funded by EU and BMZ as part of the project, Strengthening the Implementation of Regional and Local Peace and Development Agendas in Mindanao (SPADe), part of the broader Mindanao Peace and Development programme. It is a project implemented with AgriCOOPh, PAKISAMA, PhilDHRRA, MASS-SPECC Cooperative Development Center, Model Cooperative Network, NATCCO and GIZ as lead.
