Once a production manager, Darshi Jayasinghe chose to leave her career to focus on raising her family. While adjusting to life as a homemaker, she found a new purpose—growing her own vegetables right in her backyard. Darshi started cultivating beans, okra, tomatoes, and chilies, turning her home garden into both a source of income and nourishment for her family. The fresh produce she harvests not only helps support their household finances but also ensures that her children enjoy healthy, organically grown food every day.
For Darshi, gardening has become more than just a livelihood—it’s a source of pride and fulfillment. She takes joy in knowing that her hard work brings both sustenance and wellbeing to her loved ones. With her strong determination and love for farming, Darshi hopes to continue nurturing her garden and growing a better future for her family.
The Assuring Resiliency of Family Farmers (ARISE-Farmers) program was first launched in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, aiming to empower farmers’ groups to meet their members’ needs and ensure food security during the crisis. The succeeding phase of the program continues its mission to help family farmers become more resilient and self-reliant. It focuses on strengthening the capacities of farmers’ organizations (FOs) to manage production support for their members while expanding partnerships with governments, private sector actors, and financial institutions. Through this approach, ARISE addresses the persistent financing gap and helps smallholder farmers gain better access to markets.
