Understanding Large-scale Land Acquisitions in Asia
Regional Learning Session
? January 30, 2026 (Friday)
? 3:00–5:00 PM (Manila time)
? Via Zoom
We invite you to join the Regional Learning Session on Large-Scale Land Acquisitions in Asia, a timely discussion on how emerging “green” and climate-related investments are reshaping land use across the region.
Across Asia, carbon projects, nature-based solutions, and other climate-driven investments are increasingly being promoted as climate action. However, on the ground, many rural and forest-dependent communities are facing land concentration, restrictions on customary land use, and heightened risks to land tenure security and livelihoods. In this context, shared and grounded evidence is more critical than ever to strengthen land rights advocacy and policy engagement.
What this session aims to do:
- Build a clearer, practical understanding of how the Land Matrix can be used to track large-scale and climate-related land deals
- Share country-level and thematic research on land acquisitions
- Exchange experiences and insights on regional trends and their implications for land rights, livelihoods, and policy advocacy
