viet farmerHA NOI — As early as two o’clock in the morning, vegetable sellers in Dong Du Commune of Gia Lam District in the capital city of Ha Noi start their busy day’s work.

They collect vegetables from farmers to take to wholesale markets, from where containers can be filled to be exported to countries in the EU and North America.

Nguyen Van Bat and his family members also wake up early, as usual, to prepare for the day’s activities. His family has been exporting vegetables to Germany, the Czech Republic and Russia three times per week for the past 10 years.

Bat’s family is not the only one in Dong Du Commune who exports vegetables.

“In the past, I only sold vegetables to local wholesale markets. After years, consumers have grown to trust the quality of our vegetables and introduced me to international consumers,” said Nguyen Thi Hai, a vegetable exporter living in Dong Du.

Local farmers have been co-operating with each other for some time already to export vegetables to foreign countries. Farmers themselves organise teams to manage the production, processing and exporting of organic vegetables.
