Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – Upon the invitation of the President of the Swiss Confederation Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf and World Food Prize Laureate Hans Rudolf Herren, AFA delegates to the Rio+20 UNCSD events participated in a high-level dinner event “A Taste of Change” last June 20, 2012.

The special dinner gave a unique opportunity to attendees to experience the taste of food that has been produced in a sustainable way, benefiting producers and consumers – as well as the environment.

AFA delegates, composed of farmer leaders from Cambodia, Nepal, Philippines, and Japan, as well as their support staff, joined other key stakeholders in the food value chain in discussing options for a shift in the agriculture and food systems towards food and nutrition for all and the protection of the natural environment.

Chef Domenica Catelli, who has positively influenced the way millions of families eat and prepare food with her tasty, easy, and healthy approach to cooking, prepared the purely vegetarian menu.

Celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey, Julia Roberts, John Travolta, and Nelson Mandela were cited as some of those who have enjoyed her food.

She has been a long-time advocate of incorporating organic foods into diets and feeding families better.

The vegetables and fruits she used for the dinner were grown on organic farms in the region – also represented in the event.

The event was organized by Biovision – Foundation for ecological Development, the Millennium Institute and co-hosted by the Swiss Government through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Shumei-International, World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM), and the Sustainable Food Trust.
