As the world commemorates World Food Day, small scale farmers around the world continue their centuries old tradition of developing and sharing seeds. In Indonesia, farmers belong to Aliansi Petani Indonesia plant and observe rice seeds they received from Japanese farmers belonging to Ainoukai. Both are members of the Asian Farmers Association (AFA). These seed exchanges are their way of expressing solidarity with each other and an organic way of transferring knowledge among farmers. Keeping and developing their own seeds empowers farmers to produce for food security and income.
