Development of training module and implementation of Training of Trainers (ToT) on integrated/alternative pest management and biopesticides for the project “Promoting Eco-Friendly Crop Protection Solutions for Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and Highly Hazardous Pesticides (HHPs) Reduction in Asia”

Background
The Pambansang Kilusan ng mga Samahang Magsasaka (PAKISAMA), in partnership with the Asian Farmers’ Association for Sustainable Rural Development (AFA), is currently engaged in developing training modules and conducting a Training of Trainers (ToT) on Integrated/Alternative Pest Management (APM) and biopesticides. This initiative is part of the Philippine component of the regional project with India titled “Promoting Eco-friendly Crop Protection Solutions for Persistent Organic Pollutants and Highly Hazardous Pesticides Reduction in Asia” implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). In the Philippines, the project is jointly undertaken by the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD), as the National Lead Agency and Executing Agency for Technical, and the Philippine Agriculture and Resources Research Foundation, Inc. (PARRFI), as the Executing Agency for Finance and Administration.
The project aims to support farmers in transitioning away from harmful pesticides toward safer, environmentally sustainable crop protection solutions. Through this initiative, commodity-based training manuals will be developed for key crops, specifically rice, corn, onion, cabbage, calamansi, and banana, which will serve as the primary references for the upcoming ToT in selected locations.
It is within this context that we are organizing the Module Development Workshop on September 1–4, 2026. This activity aims to gather collective insights, technical expertise, and practical inputs from technical specialists, farmer leaders, and development partners to ensure that the training materials are grounded, effective, and responsive to the needs of our family farming communities
Objectives:
The four-day workshop aims to:
- Present initial or draft training modules and crop-specific manuals for feedbacking and critiquing.
- Integrate technical expertise, scientific standards, and practical field experiences into for refinement of training materials to ensure culturally grounded, gender-responsive, and practical for farming communities.
