Organized by the Forest and Farm Facility in collaboration with
the Vietnam Farmer’s Union (VNFU)
in the context of the UN Decade of Family Farming.

Climate risks that negatively impact nature and people will further limit the services natural systems provide to society, and could reduce access to food, energy, healthcare, water and international trade. Building climate resilience and food security is, therefore, an essential component of sustainable development. Research has shown that human-induced climate change could occur across 80 percent of the world’s land area, where 85 percent of the population reside. These impacts will propagate across national boundaries through global supply chains, which are increasingly compromised by climate impacts, in addition to disruption from COVID-19 and regional wars.

In this context, the goal of the Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) is to support forest and farm producers’ organizations (FFPOs) as the key change agents in delivering climate-resilient landscapes and improved livelihoods. FFF is a partnership hosted by FAO with co-management partners IIED, IUCN and AgriCord.

Objectives of the conference:

The objective of the conference is to discuss how business models can foster diversification – not uniformity. Gathering representatives from FFPOs, governments, international organizations, CSO/NGOs and other stakeholders from Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe, the conference will:

  • enhance peer learning through south-south and triangular cooperation;
  • share innovative examples of inclusive climate resilient business models, financing structures, enabling policy environments and messaging championed by FFPOs;
  • stimulate upscaling of best practices across a global network of FFPOs;
  • promote the exchange of knowledge between FFPOs and discuss common challenges and lessons learnt on developing climate-resilience business models; and
  • help strengthen the collaboration and synergy of FFPOs with governmental institutions, private sector, finance institutions and other relevant stakeholders to promote inclusive, fair and climate resilient business models linked to forest and farm value chains; and generate a body of knowledge developed and owned by FFPOs which will mainstream gender and youth concerns and draw on Indigenous and traditional knowledge.

Share Fair: A Forest Farm Producers Learning Exhibition

During the conference, a Share Fair will take place between 22 and 23 September to enhance the learning and sharing process between participants. Forest and Farm producers themselves will share their stories, products, and services to the conference participants and other visiting audiences.

Local producers will display products from their farms and forests, especially those that contribute to climate resilience and food security. Posters and videos to document the producer’s stories will be available.

Click here for more information of the Share Fair.

During the coffee breaks and lunches of the conference, some “lightning talks” of 5 minutes will be held by the local producers to provide a better understanding of the products and stories shared at the Share Fair stands.

In addition, a guided tour of the exhibition to explain each booth will be organized on 22 September, in the evening.

Field visit on 24 and 25 September

In order to promote the exchange of knowledge and experiences between forest and farm producers, government representatives, private sector experts, and civil society from Africa, Asia and Latin, participants of the conference will visit five cooperatives in the Yen Bai and Bac Kan Province. The visits will include the Cinnamon and Star Anise, Binh Minh, Yen Duong and Nhung Luy cooperatives, as well as the May Phay Collective Group, engaged with a wide range of value chains, from green zucchini to cinnamon. This exchange is expected to trigger post-conference discussions for upscaling best practices for climate resilience and diversification of products among grassroots organizations.

Programme and additional information on the conference to be shared soon. Stay tuned!
