On July 2, 2021, Prem Prakash Nepali of the National Land Right Forum (NLRF) presented the game-changing solutions led by NLRF to address the land tenure issues which affect family farmers in Nepal.

Farmers and landless of Nepal have collectively played a historic role in the land rights movement since 1950 but [the issue of] land rights has not been addressed fully till now.

According to Prem, below are some of the issues on land:

  • Unjust land relations – family farmers and their contribution is not recognized.
  • Limited access and feminization in agriculture  – ownership of production resources like land go to males that hindered women from all types of extension services/facilities.
  • Land movements – farmers play a huge role in Nepal but their rights over land have not been fully addressed.

NLRF was established in 2004 to secure land rights envisioning “Arable Land for Land Tillers and Safe Habitat for All.”
