I am Nguyen Thi Bích Nguyet, 35 years old, from Khanh Trung commune, Yen Khanh district, Ninh Binh province, Vietnam.

Over the past years, climate change has had a strong impact on agriculture. Climate change does not follow natural laws, leading to pests and diseases, land degradation, reduced yield and quality of rice and other crops, and thus, affecting people’s lives.

Heavy rain, floods, rising sea level, and saltwater intrusion have reduced agricultural cultivation areas. The problem is how to increase productivity and the quality of rice to improve farmers’ income, reduce environmental pollution, and create organic rice products that are safe to eat. I am writing this letter to propose some solutions.

First, raise awareness and advocate a harmonious life with nature. Link rice production with environmental protection instead of using pesticides, herbicides, and burning straw after each harvest.

Second, build small and medium irrigation projects to ensure water sources for rice production.

Third, change the crop structure. Bring high-quality and high-yield rice seeds into cultivation such as Tien Vua, Huong Cuc, and Nep Cau.

If these ideas are implemented, I will actively propagate and mobilize farmers’ members and staff to replicate the SRI eco-friendly rice production model and apply high technology in agricultural production.
