Bonn, Germany – AFA representatives, Esther Penunia and Irish Baguilat, together with EAFF, ROPPA, and FFORA took part in a two-day partners’ workshop on June 17-18, 2026, convened by GIZ on the sidelines of SB64.
The global Farmers’ Organisations for the Transformation of Agricultural and Food Systems initiative supported by German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) aims to help regional FOs better engage in shaping discussions and policy outcomes at all levels.
For AFA, this upcoming partnership with GIZ and BMZ will support capacity development and the engagement of AFA women and young farmers’ committee.
Moreover, it will facilitate the co-creation of knowledge and policy products that reflect farmers’ perspectives and experiences on the following key themes:
- Building sustainable and resilient food systems through agroecology, emphasizing women’s leadership in agroecology
- Farmers’ organizations and agricultural cooperatives: Key enablers in transforming food systems
- Institutionalizing farmers’ participation in policy-making
- The role of farmers’ organizations in advancing gender equality and youth inclusion in agriculture
- Strengthen access to finance and markets to address the declining youth engagement in farming and to scale up climate resilient agriculture and agroecology
- Social protection for small-scale farmers, especially women and youth
