We know that agriculture holds significant potential for adaptation and mitigation but this remains largely unrecognised and underfunded.
The climate-fuelled El Niño, combined with the ongoing fuel and fertilizer crisis, is putting farmers, agriculture and food security under additional strain.
The meaningful inclusion of farmers’ voices is essential to bringing forward practical solutions where they are most needed.
We have been disappointed by the limited progress here in Bonn – we wanted to see negotiators respond to the challenges farmers face. For COP31
- We urge all Parties to work together on the Sharm el-Sheikh joint work on implementation of climate action on agriculture and food security (SJWA) and on its next steps. We thank those Parties that did work together here at SB64
- We need an adaptation policy and finance that align with farmers’ realities.
- We must see climate finance becoming available, accessible, and predictable for all farmers
- We want a just transition and a mechanism that really enables farming and rural communities
We remain committed to working with you all to ensure that COP31 is a COP of Implementation, grounded in genuine action for farmers and rural communities worldwide.
