Phnom Penh, April 10- During the second general assembly of AFA, the Executive Committee of AFA also elected a new set of officers: Chairperson – KAFF (Mr. Kim, Gi Cheol), Vice Chairperson – SorKorPor (Ms. Sudaporn Sittisathapornkul), Treasurer – PAKISAMA (Mr. Vicente Fabe). The officers will serve for two years and may be re-elected for another two-year term. The Executive Committee, or Execom, acts as the over-all governing body of AFA in between the sessions of the General Assembly.
In his acceptance speech during the turn-over and oath-taking ceremony, newly elected Chairperson Kim, Gi Cheol said:
“I give my respect to all the members representing different countries from Asia. Inspite of the hardship of the farmers in Asia, I thank your efforts to develop AFA as a great organization. And thanks, Heru—I will never forget your effort for AFA.
“I am happy to be a Chairman, but I also think your decision has given me a heavy responsibility. We should consider local and national problems and together, let us prepare for new capitalism. It can’t be solved by doing rallies. I want to have a lot of workshop for learning advanced technology, fighting for farmers’ rights, and effective marketing.
“But it’s not only economics. We are all assisted by one another in helping farmers solve their troubles. I shall do my best to advance AFA’s vision for improving the lives of farmers in Asia.â€
